To me, the SOCOM II is a great weapon system, with the VLTOR quad rail and the custom compensator designed to reliably cycle the carbine length barrel. The feedback is appreciated, I really need to shoot a scar 17, that is what it really comes down to.įrom my perspective, the Springfield Armory M1A (the civilian version of the military M14) is an outstanding weapon, basically a modernized M1 Garand, the American battlerifle that liberated Europe and the Pacific Rim from totalitarian genocidal maniacs. Getting on that hook can be a ***** under pressure, it is nothing like slapping a mag into an M4/SCAR type platform. The ONLY complaint I have with it is the insertion of the mags into the magwell if you are unfamiliar with it. If I had to go to war and could only grab one of my rifles, it would without a doubt be my M1A. Also as for it being an "outdated" design.I cant say I agree, it is different but I would say if anything it is "battlehardened" not "outdated". Especially about the mags!!Īlso to those who say that the M1A is not Sub-MOA accurate, you guys may need to rethink that statement, the M1A is ridiculously accurate, I am VERY confident with that rifle in reaching out and touching someone. I disagree with those that say the M1a is too heavy, maybe with a wood stock, but not with synthetic and definitely not with an aftermarket stock. (I have probably rambled and confused you more than helping you).ĬRABBY, I agree completely and you hit exactly how I feel. I love em' both and I am sentimentally attached to the M1A. they are not yet "totally proven" yet in terms of long-term reliability, etc.īottom line. other than the fact that mags are not readily available and in my mind. they win out over the M1A in virtually every category. IF the SCARs prove to be as reliable (long term). In my mind, there is a definite reason this time tested and battle proven rifle is still in service with the US Armed Forces! Having said all of that. ![]() and is equipped with bipod, light/laser, etc. It has the SA Custom Shop trigger job (sweet!) and the extended top rail. it becomes a rock solid "fixed" firing station/position (note. Most importantly, I trust it without reservation! I can pop in my 100 round BETA mag/drum. Another strength is that 20 round magazines are plentiful! One other strength is that I have found it to be very, very accurate (for a 16 inch barrel). The SOCOM II has a specially designed muzzle brake/compensator that is one of its strengths! Felt recoil is greatly dampened (more than the SCAR). I disagree with those who say the SCAR has less felt recoil. HOWEVER, it eats any ammo I feed it, feels rock solid, and can seemingly fire forever. ![]() It is indeed heavier than the SCAR, feels a little chunkier, needs a cheek pad riser in order to get the correct sight picture with optics (it was designed for iron sights), etc. It can make things a whole lot easier.Click to expand.I have a couple of both (SCARs and M1As) and I love em' all (like a proud poppa - LOL). Go for a model that has a removable floorplate for cleaning. That is why you need to clean it regularly. Similar to the rifles, mags are inclined to collect dust and grime. Your best choice would be to buy a magazine that is tailored specifically for the M1A rifles.įinally, you will want your magazine is easy to maintain and clean. That will eliminate the need to thump or pull out the mag of the rifle. It is also supposed to fall freely when pressing the mag release. Make sure your magazine fed rifle is properly sized so that it fits like a glove. Which one to choose? Well, as long as the follower is self-adjusting, it’s no big deal. With regard to material, there are two options: metal and polymer. This useful feature reduces the chances of feed malfunction. These followers also have the ability to level automatically. Good magazines come with anti-tilt, self-adjusting followers. The textured magazines are easy to change and hold.Īnother significant feature to consider is the follower. It’s advisable to choose a magazine with an anti-slip surface because your hands will get wet or sweaty in some situations. The texture is the next factor to take into account. ![]() A high-quality, durable magazine will reduce replacement expenses and ensure reliable operation. That’s because it will often be dropped, stomped, or kicked during use. A magazine for the M1A needs to meet some very specific requirements and have certain qualities to be regarded as a good choice.įirst of all, it must be capable of withstanding pressure and fatigue.
